The DEAL / Wiley Agreement

Results of the publication year 2020

October 28, 2021
By the end of 2020, 97% of authors chose open access for publishing in Wiley’s hybrid journals.

Wiley journals are among the most frequently used publication venues of authors in Germany, especially in the field of chemistry, but also in the life and materials sciences.

The Wiley hybrid journal portfolio includes more than 1,400 subscription journals in which authors affiliated with German institutions may publish their articles openly thanks to the DEAL agreement.

In 2020, researchers from a total of 316 German scientific institutions published 10,039 articles in Wiley's hybrid journals, and a further 881 articles appeared in Wiley's pure open access journals.

By the end of 2020, 97% of authors chose open access for publishing in Wiley’s hybrid journals. Their articles were published under a free license (CC-BY) without any access barriers and may thus be disseminated and re-used worldwide. The number of publications for which authors opted out of open access continues to decline.

504 campuses are currently covered by DEAL participation agreements and offer their researchers access to the entire journal portfolio of the Wiley publishing house, including the archives.
