The DEAL / Springer Nature Agreement

Results in publication year 2020

In 2020, authors from 390 different German scientific institutions published 10,236 articles in Springer Nature’s hybrid journals through the DEAL agreement, of which 9,354 were of the research article type and 882 of the non-research article type. Another 1,843 articles appeared in Springer Nature’s fully open access journals.

Springer Nature journals are among the most frequently used publication venues of authors in Germany. Among Springer Nature's Open Access journals, most DEAL publications in 2020 appeared in Scientific Reports, Nature Communications, and Communications Biology.

Meanwhile, 482 campuses offer their scientists access to the journal portfolio of Springer Nature-Verlag, including the archives, via DEAL participation agreements.
